[ARCHIVED] From Miners to Merchants: Last Chance Event

Flyer graphic with event details. Graphic is historical photo of local Italian immigrants.

Benvenuto! Italian heritage and culture are deeply woven into the fabric of Fremont County. For more than 140 years, Italian families have shaped this community—from the mines they worked to the businesses they built, and the traditions they proudly passed down through generations. Their influence continues to be felt throughout the region today.

Join us on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 11am–2pm for a last-chance opportunity to experience the exhibit “From Miners to Merchants,” celebrating Italian heritage in Fremont County before it goes away.  The Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, Royal Gorge Lodge #2866, helped design and implement the exhibit and will be providing refreshments.

The first 100 visitors will receive a complimentary cannoli. Mangia!

The Museum and History Center is located in the City of Cañon City’s former Municipal Building at 612 Royal Gorge Blvd. The hours of the Museum and History Center are Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  For more information, call the museum at (719) 269-9036 or send an email to historycenter@canoncity.org.
