Sidewalk upgrade and repair work is scheduled to begin along North 9th Street on Monday, July 8, 2024.
The project will see the installation of ADA compliant sidewalk ramps and repair of the sidewalks along 9th Street, primarily in the area between Washington Avenue and Clover Avenue. The project is expected to have minimal impacts to traffic, with work primarily completed by closing the parking areas along 9th Street and the side streets. Short duration closures of driveways and side street approaches will be needed to allow time for sidewalk concrete to cure. Work is scheduled to take roughly three to four months to complete.
The project is primarily funded with a Safe Routes To School grant that the city and school district worked jointly to obtain. The goal of the program is to help encourage and promote safe walking and biking to schools. Additional sidewalk and ramp work along North 9th between Clover Avenue and Mystic Avenue, that exceeded the available grant funding, is planned for inclusion as part of the 2A reconstruction of 9th Street targeted for 2026 construction.
