Please see the attached public notice regarding a Tier-3 drinking water violation for a backflow assembly on a commercial account that did not get fixed/replaced by the 120-day deadline following a failed test.
This was a double-check backflow assembly that failed at the first check and passed the second check. A Tier-3 public notice is required for violations and situations that do not directly impact human health.
The assembly that failed the initial test was a 2.5” Double Check Fireline assembly. The assembly is solely dedicated to the fire line and, as it is a double check and not a reduced pressure zone assembly, that would indicate that there is no chemical hazard present from the fire protection system (IE: a contaminant hazard versus a pollutant hazard). The #1 check failed the initial test, however, the #2 check passed so the municipal water system was still protected by the #2 check.
The City has made policy changes to ensure this does not happen again. For more information or questions, please email Water Superintendent Travis Payne at trpayne@canoncity.org.
