Atmos Energy will commence a series of pipe replacement projects in Cañon City beginning Monday, March 4, to further increase the safety and reliability of its natural gas system while reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Colorado.
“With a vision to be the safest provider of natural gas services, we are modernizing our natural gas delivery system while also decreasing our carbon footprint,” said Kurtis Paradisa, Atmos Energy public affairs manager. “Replacing pipelines reduces leaks and methane emissions. We track and report greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Rule, which requires disclosure of greenhouse gas data and other relevant information from large sources and suppliers in the United States. In addition, our operating divisions report to various state agencies with environmental jurisdiction over our activities.”
The 2024 project plans encompass distinct geographical areas in Cañon City. Each project outlined below will be completed in phases to minimize impacts on traffic and neighborhood routines:
- Mar. 4 through April 2024 – North 13th Street to North 14th Street, from Allison Avenue to Greenwood Avenue
- Apr. 1 through June 2024 -Pine Street to Ash Street, from Sherman Avenue to Poplar Avenue
Approximately 180 Atmos Energy customers will receive new natural gas service lines upon completion of these projects. Those customers and nearby residents can expect to see our highly trained technicians and contractors replacing the natural gas mains and service lines that connect to the gas meter at their home.
“We are working closely with Cañon City officials and our local fire department to minimize any disruption that may accompany these upgrades,” added Paradisa. “In an effort to keep customers informed, our crews will place a door tag at your home before work begins, along with construction signs throughout your neighborhood.”
