K-9 Unit

The Cañon City Police Department K-9 Unit was formed in 2014 and was funded 100% by donations through the incredible generosity of Cañon City residents and K-9 supporters.

K-9 MerlinK-9 Merlin

K-9 Merlin is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois and is certified in Patrol and Narcotics work. Merlin was purchased from Johnson's K-9 in Colorado Springs and became a member of the Cañon City Police Department in April 2019. Merlin began his formal police training through Johnson's K-9 and recently completed a 6-week training course with his handler. Merlin and his handler will continue monthly training with Colorado Springs Police Department and other local K-9 Units. In his off-time, K-9 Merlin enjoys playing with his Gorilla toy and wrestling with his friend, Snuggles. Merlin excels at finding narcotics and locating felony suspects.
