About Chief Daric Harvey
Chief Harvey had been in law enforcement for 21 years working a variety of assignments prior to joining the Canon City Police Department in June of 2017. Prior to, he worked as a homicide detective, narcotics detective, SWAT sniper, academy instructor, research and development supervisor, patrol supervisor, operations commander, and administrative commander. Chief Harvey attained his Master of Science degree from Florida State University, and attended the 59th Session of the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer’s Development Course.
Aside from his direct law enforcement experiences and education, Chief Harvey has advocated for non-traditional community outreach programs that focus on victim’s rights, mental health reform, youth mentorship, and substance abuse outreach programs. In addition to serving on several local non-profit organization boards that seek to build these community relationships, Chief Harvey has had the honor of being selected to serve the State of Colorado as a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council developing a statewide strategic plan to address mental health and criminal justice reform. Chief Harvey is the treasurer for the Colorado Chief of Police Association, and is working to build local partnerships in Canon City to research and evaluate programs that reduce criminal behaviors. Chief Harvey has been an Accreditation assessor for law enforcement agencies in both Colorado and Florida.
Family & Community
He and his family enjoy skiing and often go camping in the vast national forests across Colorado. Chief Harvey feels humbled to lead an organization of such dedicated professionals, and part of a community of people that genuinely care for one another.
