When do I get my points back on my license from a ticket?

The point system in Colorado is a matter of accumulating points instead of losing points. Generally speaking, Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will suspend someone’s driving privileges if points are accumulated as follows:

  • Adults 21 and Older – Accumulation of 12 points or more within any 12 consecutive months or 18 points or more within any 24 consecutive months
  • Minor 18 to 20 – Accumulation of 9 points or more in 12 consecutive months, 12 or more within any 24 consecutive months or 14 for violations occurring after reaching 18
  • Minor 16 to 17 – Accumulation of more than 5 points within any 12 consecutive months or more than 6 points prior to reaching 18
