2020 Summer Learning Program "Imagine Your Story!"

Though our lives have been turned upside-down with COVID-19, we can make it through these difficult times if we take care of each other. The Cañon City Public Library would like to do our part and invite you and your family to join us as we present 2020 Summer Learning Program “Imagine Your Story”.

The Cañon City Public Library’s summer program will look a little bit different from previous years but the goal is the same: to encourage children and teens to keep learning all summer long. Beginning June 1, participants can register online at and download forms to start tracking activities and to be entered in our weekly prize drawing. Patrons may also pick up forms from the library.

During the summer months, while not in school, students who lack access to learning opportunities lose anywhere between 1-3 months of reading and math skills. This phenomenon is called summer learning loss or summer slide. Due to school closures the COVID slide may be a lot worse. Summer learning programs provides youth with opportunities for informal learning and activities to help retain academic and social skills throughout the summer months. Children who join the summer library program keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed.

We don’t just encourage summer reading for kiddos; reading can improve your health and happiness at any age! The Cañon City Public library also provides an adult summer program that encourages adults in our community to read at least seven books by July 17th.

The 2020 Summer Reading Program is open to all ages and abilities. For more information, call the library at 719-269-9020 or visit our website at
