The Canon City Area Fire Protection District will raise fire restrictions to Stage Two fire restrictions beginning on Wednesday, October I4, 2020 at 5:00 pm. As Fremont County and surrounding areas of Southern Colorado continue to experience adverse fire conditions leading to extreme fire behavior potential it is imperative to provide for the safety of our community. Favorable weather improvements are not expected for the area in the immediate future.
Along with these conditions, firefighting capabilities and resources across the State are still severely hindered by the COVID pandemic and several large fires in Colorado and Wyoming. Firefighting assistance in the event of a wildfire may be severely limited. Given these conditions, certain fire restrictions will be necessary. In order to accomplish this goal, the following Stage Two restrictions will be in place for all of the Canon City Area Fire Protection District.
These restrictions are the same as the current restrictions enacted by the Fremont County Sheriffs Office. Similar restrictions are in place on all US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands in Fremont County.
Certain areas of the District; including Dawson Ranch, Dakota Hideout, Red Canyon Park, Temple Canyon Park, and Royal Gorge Park; should exercise additional precautions due to the additional hazards of being in a Wildland/Urban Interface area with heavier fuel loads and lack of adequate water supplies.
