Permit Fees

The City of Cañon City has two optional ways of determining building permit fees: the square foot construction costs per Building Valuation Data or Construction Contract for Actual Cost per Ordinance No. 7, Series of 2013. Cañon City’s use tax is 2%. An example of calculating Permit Fees is as follows. Click on highlighted text for more information:

Example of Building Valuation Data:

Group = R-3 (Residential Home)

Type of Construction = VB

Finished Area = 2000 S.F. x 112.65 = 225,300.00

Unfinished Basement = 1000 S.F. x 15.00 = 15,000.00

Garage = 800 S.F. x 43.33 = 34,664.00

Total Valuation = 225,300.00 + 15,000.00 + 43,664.00 = 274,964.00

Permit Fee = 274,965.00 x .00998 (City of Cañon City Permit Fee Multiplier) = 2,744.14

Use Tax = 274,964.00 x 50% = 137,482.00.00 x 2.0% = 2,749.64

Mechanical Fee = 60.75 (See Schedule for Mechanical Fees)

Total Permit Fees = 5,554.53

Example of Actual Construction Contract:

Contract = 180,000.00 x .00998 = 1,796.40 (Permit Fee)

Use Tax = S.F. cost 274,964.00 (see above for the total valuation example) x 50% = 137,482.00 x 2.0% = 2,749.64

Mechanical Fee = 60.75 (See Schedule for Mechanical Fees)

Total Permit Fees = 4,606.79

Other Fees Which May Apply:
Electrical Permit (State of Colorado)
Plumbing Permit (State of Colorado)
Fire Impact Fee (Cañon City collects this fee for the Fire Department)
