General Benefits for Police Officers: New Police Officer Trainee trial period is one (1) year. After the trial period Officers are eligible, based on performance, to be promoted to Police Officer I. Sworn officers of the Cañon City Police Department belong to the Fire and Police Protection Association of Colorado Statewide Defined Benefit Plan. Enrollment starts on the first day of employment. The employee's share is 10 1/2%, which is matched by the City of Cañon City. Of the total 21% contribution, 16% goes to FPPA, and 5% is diverted to FPPA 457 deferred compensation. Officers are fully vested after 5 years of service. Pay periods are bi-weekly. Pre-tax withholdings include:
