Police
RecordsThe Records Division of
the Canon City Police Department is charged with maintaining
police reports and documentation. The Records Clerks have the
following duties:
- Transcribing and entering reports
from officers and staff into the department's computer
system
- Releasing information to the
public in accordance with state statutes
- Retrieving documents for criminal
justice agencies, victims, offenders, insurance companies,
military, employers, etc
- Maintaining records on registered
sex offenders
- Taking payment for Vehicle
Identification Number (VIN) inspections, bicycle licenses,
dog licenses, etc
- Police Department purchases
(tracking purchase orders, credit card expenses, etc)
- Some Police Department
correspondence
- Collecting and discriminating
statistical data
- Assist officers and staff as
needed
- Assist citizens with other
inquiries, concerns
Requests for copies of police
reports should be done in person, as recipients must indicate
the reason why they want to obtain the report, and, in some
cases, recipients must pay for report copies.
Fees are collected for the following:
- VIN Inspections $10
- Certified VIN Inspections $20
- Fingerprinting $10
- Bicycle License (2 yrs) $ 0.50
- Dog License (ODD YEARS)
$6 for males & $10 unspayed females
- Dog License (EVEN YEARS) $3 for
males & $5 unspayed females
- Dog Impound Fee $10 for the first
24 hours - $ 3 per day for each day thereafter.

page thereafter
