Police
CommunicationsThe
Communications staff of the Canon City Police Department
provides a crucial link between citizens needing assistance and
law enforcement officers or emergency medical responders.
Working hectic shifts with multiple tasks, dispatchers daily
answer questions, help make resource referrals and, often, save
lives.
The Communications Center dispatches for the Canon City Police
Department and the Canon City Fire District. On occasion, the
center also dispatches for the Canon City Public Works
Department, Flight for Life and any officer on the National Law
Enforcement radio channel.
In addition to answering six regular business phone lines, and "Crimestoppers"
for the entire Fremont County, the dispatchers are also
responsible for four 911 lines. The Canon City Center serves as
a backup for the 911 system at the Florence Police Department.
The advanced 911 equipment allows the dispatcher to determine
where an emergency call was placed from.
All the Communications staff are Emergency Medical Dispatch
certified, enabling them to offer medical assistance over the
phone to persons calling in for help until emergency medical
responders arrive on scene.
