Hours
of Operation
5 Am to 11 PM daily, City Parks close at 11 PM
The
City of Canon owns and operates two types of parks and jointly
manages trails with the Recreation District:
- City
Parks located with in City limits
- Mountain
Parks located outside City limits
- Trails
both inside and outside City limits
Prohibitions
in City and Mountain Parks:
- Vehicles
for hire or solicitation
- Games
of chance
- Sale
of articles
- Carry
into or across or discharge firearms
- Post
any bills or notices
- Hunting
or molestation of any wildlife
- Remove
or cut any trees, shrubs or flowers
- Remove
any dead or down trees or timber without a permit
- Have
in possession or consume or sell any alcoholic beverages
without the express permission of City Council and issuance of
a permit from the City Clerk
- Leave
any unattended campfire unextinguished
- Conduct
any commercial operation without the express permission of
City Council
- Camping
without the express permission of the City Administrator
- Excavating
or removing soils or gravel
- Skating,
skateboarding, bicycling or roller hockey on tennis courts
- Vehicles
of any type on turfgrass or playgrounds
Rules Pertaining to Mountain Parks
(Royal Gorge, Red Canyon, Temple Canyon Parks)
- Overnight
camping is limited to 72 hours once every two weeks.
Extensions may be given by calling the Park Department at (719)269-9028
- All
open fires must be contained in campfire rings that are
provided by the City
- Camping
is limited to designated camp sites in designated campgrounds
only
- The
City may limit or ban open fires during high or extreme
wildfire conditions
- Throwing,
rolling or launching any item from the canyon walls of
mountain parks is prohibited
- Parachuting,
skydiving, hang gliding or any other form of restrained or
unrestrained form of ascent or decent including from the Royal
Gorge Bridge or any other improvement in any mountain park
- No
person, except a peace officer, shall carry any firearm into
or across any mountain park
Unless a special permit is obtained from the City
Administrator (Municipal Code 9.44.090)
- Trapping
and hunting are prohibited in mountain parks, unless a special
permit is obtained from the City Administrator (Municipal Code
9.44.100)
- Vehicles
including OHV’s, motorcycles, 4 x 4’s are prohibited from
being operated anywhere in any park except on established
roads or trails specifically designated and marked for such
use
Park Use
Permits Required For Reservation of Specific Facilities or Parks:
Any individual, group,
organization, association or business (sponsor) that would like to
reserve a specific facility in a City owned park for an activity
or function may do so by completing the “PARK USE PERMIT” form
attached and submitting it to the City Administrator’s Office a
minimum of 30 days in advance of the proposed activity. Requests
for activities that require reservation of a large portion of a
park for a community-wide event should be submitted 60 to 180 days
in advance so appropriate review of applicable laws and
regulations may be reviewed by City staff and City Council.
