City
Forester:
Bryce Hamilton
In the 1950’s, the
City assumed the responsibility of maintaining
right-of-way trees located along city streets. The
Forestry crew is responsible for maintaining the
health of street trees and trees in various city
owned public places by pruning them on a rotating
basis and removing them when necessary. A small
nursery is maintained at Lakeside cemetery for the
purpose of replacing trees in public property. Staff
conducts insect and disease surveys of trees
throughout the community in conjunction with the
Colorado State Forest Service and provides code
enforcement of corresponding state and municipal
laws. Information and education programs are
available to the public through the Forestry
Division. Wildfire mitigation programs are also
developed and coordinated through the Forestry
Division for Canon City mountain parks.
