NOTE: Any employment with the City of Cañon City as at-will and of an indefinite duration, and that either the employee or the city may terminate employment at any time, with or without notice and for any reason.

New hire trial period is six (6) months.

After trial period: 

  • Based on a performance evaluation, employees are eligible to receive up to a 2% base pay increase, and begin enrollment in the City's pre-tax retirement program. 

  • Employee contribution of 4.9% is matched by the City. (100% vesting occurs upon three (3) years of service). 

  • Employees may begin to use accrued vacation hours.

Pay periods are bi-weekly.  Pre-tax withholdings include:

Automatic Withholdings Voluntary
Wells Fargo Retirement Program Additional life insurance contributions
Social Security and Medicare 457 Deferred Compensation
 Health insurance premiums Flexible Spending Program

The City automatically pays the premium for a $25,000 life insurance policy for the employee.  Employees may enroll for an additional life insurance. 

Our self-funded group insurance allows employees the freedom to choose medical providers.  Dental and Vision are included.

2008 employee bi-weekly share of premiums:
Single coverage (required) $59.11
Employee plus one $148.85
Employee plus family $180.51

Deductibles are $100/individual, $300/family.  $25 copay/brand name and $10 generic prescriptions. 

Vacation is earned on a progressive scale:

5 through end of 9 10
10 through end of 14 12
15 through end of 19 14
20 plus 16

The Sick leave accrual rate is eight (8) hours a month, with a 360 hour cap.

After 5 years of service, employees begin earning longevity pay on a progressive scale.

Thanksgiving Day

Memorial Day Christmas Eve Afternoon
Independence Day Christmas Day
3 floating holidays per year, earned 1 per quarter
